Brunching at Spicer Street Cafe in Woollahra

Hello Sydney!

I discovered Spicer Street Café on my first weekend back in Sydney. It was neatly tucked away in a little side street (called Spicer Street of course) just off Queen’s Street in Woollahra. I was drawn to the café because of its casual-looking yet trendy outdoor seating on the balcony.

Inside, I was greeted by a small interior with modern décor and a few tables which gave the café a warm, cosy feel. The reasonably priced (cash-only) menu sounded delicious and the staff were simply lovely so I decided to stay for breakfast.

I ordered the toasted brioche topped with orange & honey ricotta, fresh strawberries, toasted almonds and maple syrup ($12.50) and washed it all down with my favorite English Breakfast tea with milk ($4)…. It was simply divine!

The café appeared to be very popular among the locals as there was a steady stream of customers to sit down and takeaway that Friday morning. At the table next to me, a posh young mum (who are very common in these ‘Eastern’ suburbs) ordered a babycino and some eggs to share with her cute little daughter. At another table, a dad in a suit shared some scrambled eggs and juice with his two primary school-aged sons. Nearby two grandmothers were chatting away over their coffees. There was a very warm atmosphere created by the locals and the friendly staff that made me stay for not just one, but two, pots of tea.

I returned to Spicer Street Cafe that weekend for Sunday brunch after I showed the picture of the toasted brioche to my friend – she was just dying to try it! I was far too busy enjoying the popular breakfast ‘BRAT’ sandwich (and my friend’s company) to take notes or photos unfortunately. However, I remember that the toasted sandwich ($11.50) was packed to the brim with lettuce, tomato, crispy bacon and a home-made chili sauce… yummy! Again, the food, atmosphere and service did not disappoint.

It was a great way to start my first weekend back in Sydney town.
