The Sydney Aquarium

I can’t even remember the last time I visited an aquarium! So I jumped at the chance to visit the Sydney Aquarium a few weeks ago.

Although the tickets are a little pricey at $38 (and a bit cheaper if you buy online), it was super fun. It took about 2 hours to wander through the different levels at a leisurely pace. I suddenly appreciated why some some hotel rooms have pictures of fish swimming on their TV screens – it’s so calming and peaceful! I wish I could learn to dive – it would be such an amazing experience to see something like this.

Here are some of the photos that I took – I hope they make you feel a little calm and entice you to visit the aquarium next time you are in Sydney!

An ‘upside down’ jellyfish – it’s tentacles were moving. Hard to believe it’s a living being isn’t it?

Can you spot the frog?

Penguins!

We headed down a ramp to see the Dugong which is a large marine mammal, also known as a ‘sea cow’. It’s so cute and peaceful – very large too. It just sits around grazing on lettuce and swims a little bit here and there – what a lovely creature.

What was on the menu for the dugong…

How the dugong is fed – a large rack filled with lettuce is lowered into the water (this photo was taken above the massive tank).

Afterwards you can always grab a bite along Darling Harbour or a hot chocolate at the Lindt cafe like I did.

Fellow Sydney-siders – be a tourist in your own city and go! Tourists – remember to stop off at the Aquarium – it’s fun and informative!

I love visiting zoos and aquariums when I’m overseas. Brings me back to my childhood I suppose. Oh and I agree, get your scuba licence! I have had interesting encounters with sea life scuba diving. I even did the shark dive at the Manly Sealife Sanctuary 🙂

    • Haha well I have to learn to swim first…and then scuba dive. I’ll let my diving friends know about this spot in Manly – I might just sit on the edge of the ocean/swimming pool for now! =D
