Places to Eat: Safi Middle Eastern Dining

I met KT and Mrs N. for dinner at Safi Middle Eastern Dining during winter 2013. I wouldn’t have know about this little gem if it wasn’t for Mrs. N because it’s tucked away on a quiet street near the Stanton Library in North Sydney. The venue was warm and cosy on a wintery night; the decor was simple; the service was friendly and welcoming and; the food was delicious.

We chose the banquet ($35 each) because I believe these dishes are best shared.

We started with dips – hommos, labneh (yogurt with mint, paprika and olive oil) and baba ghanouj – with crispy, warm Pita bread and Tabbouleh.

Next there was falafel and cauliflower with a tahini-spiced yogurt dip,

Kafta kebab (beef) and finally…

Cracked wheat balls stuffed with flavored minced meat and onion (Kibbeh).

But there was also dessert…. Turkish delight and baklava which we couldn’t refuse even though we were stuffed. The girls drank coffee while I sipped on an Arabic cinammon spiced tea.

I highly recommend dinner at Safi with a group of friends. Don’t forget to make a booking.
