Art: Francesca Gnagnarella’s Exhibition

I moved back to Sydney in May 2012 – almost 2 years ago now! – after living and working in Hong Kong for 2 years. I have been enjoying the many things I missed while I was away like open spaces, natural beauty and fresh produce. I also missed the abundance of cultural experiences that we have in Sydney such as theatre and art. We are very blessed in Sydney with so many galleries including the more well-known Art Gallery of NSW in the city or Brett Whitely Studio in Surry Hills to smaller galleries such as the Kate Owen Gallery or Tali Gallery in Rozelle.

So I was intrigued to hear that a very successful, contemporary abstract artist – Francesca Gnagnarella (pictured below), from North Fremantle in Perth – will be exhibiting her artworks at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong. It looks like Hong Kong could be getting a bit more cultured…

I just missed her solo exhibition held at the Art2Muse Gallery in Double Bay, Sydney just last week unfortunately. Here are some photos from that exhibition:

Francesca’s works are multi-layered with a rich texture and complex under-painting. This reflects the subtleties of color, light and luminosity. She combines bold brushstrokes and dripped paint with thinned veiled stains to create the shifting layers of color. Art collectors have recognized her artworks for her use of 23 carat gold leaf which I think gives her paintings an elegant and glamorous touch. Her paintings are currently in collections in Italy, the USA, Japan, Shanghai and Australia.

If you’re in Hong Kong in May, please go along to her amazing exhibition and tell me how it was! It will be held in Room 4309 of the Conrad in Hong Kong from May 15th to 18th as part of the Asia Contemporary Art Show.
