6 Travel Planning Tips

It has almost been a year since our last holiday to Panama, Cuba and LA (which you can read about here, here and here) so I have been dreaming of new destinations. I love seeing new places, meeting the locals, eating new cuisines and returning refreshed with a new appreciation for my pretty Sydney. Travel, however, can be expensive and time consuming so it’s really important to plan your holiday well. I’m no expert, but have been lucky to travel a bit in my life so far, so I have shared some important questions I ask myself as I start planning:

1. Which season do I prefer? You may decide to travel to Asia instead of Europe in January because you prefer summer over winter.
2. When and how long? Book your vacation leave asap.
3. What’s my budget? You may want to save on accommodation so that you can spend more on sightseeing in Barcelona, or instead you may splurge on a nice resort in Bali.
4. Where should I stay according to my budget and the country I’m visiting? Research your accommodation on Trip Advisor . It’s great to read independent reviews and you may find that it’s better to stay in B&Bs instead of hotels (which was the case in Cuba).
5. How should I book? I like to use websites like Webjet and Zuji for great flight and accommodation packages. Some people prefer Flight Centre, but my most recent experience wasn’t the best (unfortunately).
6. Do I need a visa or other documentation? Check your visa requirements on the Smart Traveller website.

Now you can get to the fun stuff like researching Lonely Planet Guides and start planning your activities and wardrobe! Also start saving money to spend on holidays and sign up for a Travel Money card.

Finally, if you haven’t decided on a destination, here are a few of my fave photos for inspiration.

This post was brought to you by Webjet and Zuji, two great website to find deals for flights, hotels and travel packages which I used with ease for during my travels in Asia.
