‘Connect with Everything’ Art Exhibition at the MCA

This exhibition that I saw with Miss M at the Museum of Contemporary Art really spoke to me because it’s all about numbers (which I studied and deal with every day) and Buddhism.  Japanese artist Tatsuo Miyajima’s works are made with LED light counters that go on and off at various points in time and change numbers frequently.  The concepts behind these works are based on Buddhist themes such as birth and death (the light counters switch on and off), the space between being death and rebirth (the time that the light counters stay off), and that we are all connected (the light counters are connected together).  Or that’s what the exhibition meant to me, at least. Pretty deep, huh?

The Mega Death display was our favourite with three humongous boards with LED counters switching on and off at various times.  The concept behind it is sad though, because it represents big tragedies like Hiroshima, Nagasaki or the Holocaust.

Even the numbers changed in the window…

I really enjoyed the exhibition and a walk through Circular Quay with Miss M before we parted ways to go home.

I recommend seeing this insightful exhibition if you have some time!
